There are more Israel newspapers per capita than many developed countries of the world. The adult literacy rate is 95% but if you count just the Jewish Population is practically 100%. Politics, local and foreign affairs are of interest to almost all Israelis. The average weekday readership of Israeli Newspapers is around 20 papers for every 100 people. Some Israelis like us end up reading more than one a day.
Israelis are avid readers. They read the news and many books. You should see the variety of books written in Hebrew or translated from other languages. I can see it in my children and grandchildren. They are constantly reading. We receive two daily newspapers at home. One because is the one we like and one because it’s delivered free to my doorstep.
Most Israeli newspapers are in Hebrew. There are also newspapers catering to the Arab Speaking communities and a few in other languages like Russian, English, German and French to attend the needs of tourists and new immigrants. No newspaper is published on Shabbat, but to compensate the Friday editions bring information for a whole week.
Yediot Aharonot and Israel Hayom are the most read in Israel
